Phoenix Institute, Book 2

As a teen, Lucy left home to gain the independence to pursue her dreams. When a renegade scientist captured and used her as a guinea pig, she escaped, but not unscathed. Rendered permanently invisible and with little memory of her previous life, she has transformed herself into Noir, a rogue crime fighter with one goal: find and stop her tormentor from harming anyone else.

Police Lieutenant Aloysius James thought he’d seen it all in the crumbling and corrupt Charlton City, but a brutal bank robbery committed by a monster has left him feeling he’s out of his depth. One man is missing from the scene and if he isn’t found soon, Al fears he’ll be as dead as the rest.

Al is unprepared for the one woman with the key to solving the case—Noir, who seems equally surprised he doesn’t find her unique ability repulsive.

Together they go out into the night, joining forces to track the monster down. They never expected their desperate alliance would generate a force of a different kind. Attraction…and desire.

Warning: This book contains sex without sight, requiring the characters to do everything—yes, everything—by touch alone. Continue reading Luminous: Phoenix Institute (The Phoenix Institute Series)

Di’s parents died suddenly when she was nineteen, leaving her shattered and grateful for Stephen’s rescue. Pregnant after their one-night stand, Di realizes putting her ‘mistake’ behind her won’t be easy.

Caught between her loyalty to her husband and the uncertain paternity of her baby, Di soon begins falling for Santiago, drawn to his strength and confidence, yet also his compassion and vulnerability. With Santiago’s help, Di experiences new passion, kindles hidden desires, and uncovers the sheltered part of herself she thought she’d lost long ago. Blurb: Tristan Green left his small English town for Manhattan and a job at a high profile ad agency, but can’t seem to find his bearings. He spends a lot of time working late at night, eating and sleeping alone, and even more time meandering around his neighborhood staring into the darkened windows of shops. One night when he’s feeling really low, he wanders by a beautiful little bakery with the lights still on. The baker invites him in, and some time during that night Tristan realizes it’s the first time he’s really smiled in months.

Henry Livingston has always been the odd duck, the black sheep, the baker in an old money family where pedigree is everything and quirky personalities are hidden behind dry martinis and thick upper east side townhouse facades. Henry is drawn to Tristan’s easy country charm, dry English wit, and everything that is so different from Henry’s world.

Their new romance is all buttercream frosting and sugared violets until Tristan’s need to fit in at work makes him do something he desperately wishes he could undo. Tristan has to prove to Henry that he can be trusted again before they can indulge in the sweet stuff they’re both craving.

Rack & Ruin: Blog Tour

CCRRBlogTourBannerLG

Wonderful to meet you. I’m Dr. Hudson Colbourn, the Chief Medical Examiner for Destructive Delta. I do hope you enjoyed your coffee with Agent Daley. He’s a lively fellow indeed. It’s rather difficult not to fall victim to that boyish charm of his. I will warn you, he has a habit of eating gummy bears at the most inappropriate times. Somehow one always tends to end up in the strangest of places. He’s certainly made quite the impact on the team.

Hudson ColbournYes, I’m British. I transferred from the London branch of the THIRDS roughly seven years ago. The team structure was a little different then. My partner Dr. Nina Bishop is off seeing to some lab tests. If you’ll follow me, we’ll head up to the eighteenth floor where my lab is.

Although I’m the Chief Medical Examiner for Destructive Delta, I also work with the other squads in Unit Alpha, depending on the workload and where Lieutenant Sparks needs me the most. Unfortunately, in this line of work, there’s never a lull. Demanding? It absolutely is. I spend quite a good deal of time in my lab, at crime scenes, or in court. Do I enjoy my job? I do, actually.  At times dealing with the dead is far easier than dealing with the living. I’m afraid I’m not exactly a social butterfly. I prefer a quiet evening in with a glass of wine. Dance? Heavens no. I mean I can, I simply prefer not to. I suppose if I had the right partner, I would.

No, there is no one in my life at the moment. Sadly, there hasn’t been for quite a while. You’re not going to share this with anyone, are you? Good. Just through here if you don’t mind. Yes, it is rather chilly in here. Have a seat won’t you? As you can see we have all the latest equipment. It’s necessary in order to keep up with all the new developments in Therian forensics. Pardon? Why is there no one in my life? Surely you didn’t come all this way to discuss my love life or lack thereof.

Let’s just say my last relationship ended quite spectacularly. Such wounds take time to heal. Especially when you can’t seem to get said person out of your head, or worse your heart. He’s quite stubborn that way. Don’t get me wrong, he’s kept his distance, but…. I don’t know. What’s that? No, he’s a wonderful bloke. Fierce yet gentle, a smashing sense of humor, handsome, incredibly sexy, and—Why did it end? It’s complicated. My sincerest apologies, but I won’t be discussing it. It’s far too painful. As if seeing his face every day wasn’t difficult enough.

Who? Oh, I don’t think I should say. He and I don’t speak much. Unless it’s related to a case or general pleasantries. Very well, but none of this must leave this office. I was once romantically involved with Agent Sebastian Hobbs. He’s Defense agent. A tiger Therian. Yes, his younger brother is on Destructive Delta. Ethan Hobbs. Ethan is a delight. He’s a little shy and speaks mostly to his partner Agent Summers, but I think you’ll like him. Seb is…. He’s a difficult fellow to get over. They say time heals all wounds, but personally I think that’s a load of rubbish. Did I love him? Very much so. Do I still? That’s not something I’d like to get into. Does he still have feelings for me? I don’t know and quite frankly, it’s best I not think about such things. Now, shall we move on? Next door we have–Oh, um… you seem to have something stuck to your trousers. It appears to be–No, it is. It’s a red gummy bear. It would seem Agent Daley has been here recently. I wouldn’t recommend eating that. Who knows how far it’s traveled. Shall we continue?

The Four & Twenty Blackbirds Pie Book: Uncommon Recipes from the Celebrated Brooklyn Pie Shop

Pie Friday

Some people are aware I have what my friend Vivian ever so politely calls a Cookbook Collection. Being a book reviewer and having hundreds of cookbooks it’s natural I’d drift toward writing cookbook reviews. As we rapidly head toward Thanksgiving and I descend into pie planning, I thought it would be a great time to review some pie and pastry books. So now, for the month of November, we’ll be having Pie Fridays.

Blurb: My name’s Charlie. I’m many things, though none of them having to do with any real talent. I’m a runaway, a hustler when I need to be, a ghost when I have to scare hoodlums away from my home, and a loner who maybe reads too much. But most of all, I’m the keeper of the carnival. That’s how I see myself. I look after the place ’cause even dying things need to be cared for. Maybe it’s illegal. Maybe that rusty metal fence around the carnival is supposed to keep me out too. Or maybe me and this place were meant to find each other. Truth is, I never felt at home anywhere but here, not even in all the foster families and orphanages I was placed in as a young shit. They don’t look for me no more, those places. I suspect I ran away so much they finally just said, “Fuck! Let him go.” I am a hangnail on society’s manicured middle finger. I’m older. One year past the age anyone gives a shit.

And this is my adventure…
