From New York Times bestselling author Katy Regnery comes a new twist on a beloved fairytale.

In this modern retelling of The Little Mermaid, a fisherman’s daughter from an Outer Banks island untouched by time, meets the son of the North Carolina governor at a fancy party where she is working.

Laire, who wants more from life than her little island can offer, is swept away by wealthy, sophisticated Erik, who is, in turn, entranced by her naiveté and charm. The two spend a whirlwind summer together that ends on the knife-point of heartbreak and forces them to go their separate ways.

Years later, when fate finds them together once again, they will discover the terrifying depth of the secrets they kept from each other, and learn that shattered hearts can only be healed by a love that willfully refuses to die.

All novels Katy Regnery’s ~a modern fairytale~ collection are written as fundraisers. 10% of the e-book sales for in March and April 2017 will be donated.

In this beautiful allegory about the tension between the land and the sea, the past and the future, and choosing whether to fit in or stand out, Katy’s modern day Ariel is beyond brave. Laire desperately wants to defy the tide and leave Corey, the small island her family has lived on for ten generations. The first step? A job on a larger island where she’ll make some real money. Her father would never approve, though, so it’ll have to be a secret, which Laire hates.

Then she meets Erik. He’s from an entirely different world–almost another planet. He’s handsome and smart and she’s completely enchanted with him. Will trying to have a secret relationship with Erik and hiding her new job be too much for this island girl?

Losing either at this point would shatter all of her dreams.

Erik has been indulged and spoiled his entire life. His life reads like a modern day fairy tale, but inside, he isn’t happy. He feels forced to follow in his father’s footsteps, first by getting a law degree and then running for public office. Erik isn’t interested in either, really. When he meets a beautiful island girl, his heart is immediately taken.

In order to be able to see each other, Laire and Erik have both lied to each other and to their families. When the end of summer grows near and it’s almost time for Erik to return to college, these lies have an ominous impact on their relationship. What was once a dream come true becomes a nightmare, leaving them both reeling in abject misery.

Erik closes his heart and chooses never to trust again. Claire has to leave the island and the only life she’s always known for a new one on an uncertain path.

Luckily, in the romance world, the opportunity for a second chance happens even for the faint of heart.

What can I say about this book that I haven’t said before about one of this author’s books? A lot, actually. Even though I’m a huge fan of Katy’s, I’m also watching her writing style grow through each new book. The modern fairytale series is my favorite, and this story had all the thrills and chills I expected, but it also had more. An unexpected hero who chose to do the right thing at the right time. Who wasn’t a jerk. Who believed in their love almost more than the heroine did at times. I was truly thrilled that Erik got his happily ever after, too.

Read it for the unusual setting, the gorgeous depth of the characters, and the heartfelt writing. You’ll fall in love with the story and the characters just like I did. Thanks, Katy!

Katy lives in the relative wilds of northern Fairfield County, Connecticut, where her writing room looks out at the woods, and her husband, two young children, two dogs, and one Blue Tonkinese kitten create just enough cheerful chaos to remind her that the very best love stories begin at home.
