Blurb: Eric Schuster is a successful guy. He’s part owner of a highly successful tech firm, he has a supportive family and a great group of close friends. But something is missing. Or maybe he’s reacting to his business partner and ex’s wedding news. He knows his former lover is making a big mistake but he also knows it’s time to move on. And hopefully avoid falling for another friend.
Zane Richards is an avid sailor and surfer with a laid-back approach to life. He firmly believes there’s a time and place for everything if you’re willing to take a chance. Like letting his best friend know he’s interested in being much more than friends. Eric has always been half in love with Zane but going from friends to lovers isn’t an easy sell for someone protecting his heart. Eric will have to decide if he’s willing to risk it all by leaning into love.
Review: Eric has just found out his ex and business partner is getting married. It’s not that he’s devastated by the news but he knows Nick the ex doesn’t love the woman he’s engaged to either. His only option is to support Nick. Eric’s group of friends includes Zane the funny and gorgeous sailor/surfer guy he’s spent a decade lovingly bickering with. Zane starts to throw out strange signals that maybe he’s interested in being more than friends. He and Eric spend more and more time alone together. Eric isn’t sure he’s reading him right and doesn’t want to risk their friendship with acting on his attraction. He’s done that before with Nick. Zane makes his intentions clear and things get sexy pretty fast.
I’m a big fan of Lane Hayes so of course I’m going to read a new series from her. The story was pretty short. I can’t help but wonder if that’s why I wasn’t invested in her characters as much in this one. There seemed to be many things skimmed over. I couldn’t help but feel like I missed out on portions of their pasts and budding relationship. Zane is a good for Eric. Eric worries and isn’t sure about a relationship with real feelings involved. Zane assures Eric and tries to keep him focused on enjoying what’s happening between them. Being with him in the moment and open to love. The ex Nick is pretty frustrating. I think you’d have to get in his head to understand him. Which luckily you do get his POV with the bonus chapter. I do like it when authors tackle redeeming characters I thought I’d dislike. It’s probably not fair to compare but I didn’t love this one as much as other books by this author. Still worth the read if you’re looking for short, sweet and sexy.
