Blurb: L. P. Dover’s tantalizing Second Chances series gets a change of scenery as the Carolina Cougars’ infamous bad boy heads to the West Coast. His best laid plans call for seduction—but a driven career woman has him begging for more.
Trying to live down his very public indiscretions, Carolina Cougars kicker Jaxon Reed feels like the most hated man in the NFL. When he’s traded away, his new teammates in California don’t waste any time making his life miserable. Unfortunately for them, Jaxon’s no easy target. As payback, he sets his sights on the quarterback’s sister: a sultry brunette who’s curvy, confident, and sexy as hell. But what begins as a revenge fling turns into so much more.
Bristol Thomas doesn’t have time for games, especially those played by her brother’s Neanderthal teammates. A talented interior designer with lofty goals, she doesn’t know the first thing about football, or Jaxon—except that he’s exactly the type of man she usually avoids. But when his deep laugh and deeper kisses break through her walls, she becomes the target of a fan who’s obsessed with Jaxon. Now she needs to know that Jaxon has her back . . . because he already has her heart.
Review: LP Dover writes the best romantic suspense novels around. I’ve read the series from book one and have enjoyed every one if them. This one was especially suspenseful and I found myself both crying at certain parts and screaming at others. Include the sweet way the two characters got together and you’ve got pure gold!
Jaxon was a really bad decision maker. Tired of not getting the limelight, he’d succumbed to jealousy and started doing really crappy things to the guys he was envious of. That’s a really mean and disrespectful way to behave, but luckily he’d also had some friends who’d taught him that who you are isn’t just your job–it’s how you behave towards the people in your life that matters. He was slowly turning it around.
Unfortunately sometimes his instincts were still not the best. When he met the new quarterback for the team, Ryan, he didn’t like him. Dislike turned quickly into more, and he wanted to get under Ryan’s skin. After seeing Ryan’s sister Bristol, he figured he could bang her and then embarrass Ryan in the locker room.
But what a turning point that was.
Bristol loved her new home and job in Charlotte. She was also very interested in this new guy, Jack, who was really sweet and well mannered. Would she be able to trust him after having her last boyfriend be such a douche?
Unfortunately there was going to be a reckoning, and Bristol was going to find out that Jack was not who she thought he was. Really interesting and romantic read where you keep wondering when the bullet is going to hit. Thanks
