Blurb: Marek and Adrian dated in high school, but a bitter breakup led them to choose different paths. Adrian is out and proud while Marek is in the closet. Adrian embraces his eccentricity while Marek clings to a conservative image. And while Marek worked hard to build a successful life and financial stability by climbing the corporate ladder, Adrian threw caution to the wind and has spent the last five years backpacking across the world.

Now Adrian is back in Warsaw, Poland, but while Marek thinks they will have a hookup and have a blast from the past, Adrian is just looking for a place to crash. Worse still, Adrian turns up at Marek’s advertising agency for help with his outrageous new business venture, and if Marek wants to get promoted, he might have to work with the guy who broke his heart.

World of Love: Stories of romance that span every corner of the globe.

Review:  Marek is miserable while doing what he thought he always wanted. When his old boyfriend Adrian shows up he wants to impress him. It doesn’t really go as planned. They are opposites, with Adrian being the free spirit who traveled across continents and Marek working in an office. Things are not happy and beautiful between them, but Adrian needs a place to stay and Marek agrees to let him stay with him. Things between them are tempestuous. Adrian wants to start a food business and hires Marek’s advertising firm to do the promotion. They spend a lot of time together, both too proud to admit any mistakes they may have made since their break up. The intense pressure of success is finally too much for them. Marek is forced to look at what he really wants from life, and who he wants to spend his life with.

I both really liked this book, and really disagreed with some aspects of its message. It’s entirely possible retreating to a more simple life and going back to your first love will be the best possible outcome for someone. And for someone else it may be the worst. A high stakes job isn’t the worst possible thing to do with your life, and many people thrive. But, like I said, I enjoyed this story, and for Marek, getting out of an office was the best decision he had made in a long time.

I liked that it took quite a while for Adrian and Marek to become comfortable with each other after several years apart. I also really liked that the situation that finally drove Marek out of the closet wasn’t about Adrian. Whereas in some ways Adrian was the driving force behind Marek’s personal growth, it was still very much Marek’s own personal growth and his own self awareness and respect that led him to take the actions he did. Marek finally found someone he loved enough to step out of the closet for. That person was Marek.
