Blurb: THEY CALL HIM THE DUKE OF MURDER…
The gossips whisper that the new Duke of Murdoch is a brute, a murderer, and even worse–a Scot. They say he should never be trusted alone with a woman. But Megan Windham sees in Hamish something different, someone different.
No one was fiercer at war than Hamish McHugh, though now the soldier faces a whole new battlefield: a London Season. To make his sisters happy, he’ll take on any challenge-even letting their friend Miss Windham teach him to waltz. Megan isn’t the least bit intimidated by his dark reputation, but Hamish senses that she’s fighting battles of her own. For her, he’ll become the warrior once more, and for her, he might just lose his heart.
Review: I have loved Grace Burrows previous series, so when this title came up I was immediately interested. She usually shows interesting, witty characters with naughty love lives. I also adore the Scottish people, and this story combined a wounded, misunderstood Scot war hero and a sensitive heroine with problems of her own. Great character development and interesting plot twists make this historical romance an endearing, sexy and emotionally satisfying read.
If you’ve read any of the previous Windham series, you’ll immediately fall into the story. Finally the female Windham’s are getting their stories! This first on the series about Megan was surprisingly intimate and covered subjects not usually revealed in historicals but things that you’re pretty sure happened–even back then. I’ll leave it to you to read the book and discover them.
How interesting and small world-ish is it that the perpetrator of Hamish’s problems is also the jerk in Megan’s past? If you live in a small town like I have, you probably know the same thing I do–fate sends to be intrinsically linked to everything. Don’t ever talk about anyone–thinking you’re safe–because inevitably the door will open and someone you know will be there!
It’s the same in this book when Hamish realizes that his enemy is also the one who is threatening Megan. How will he fix it and how will Megan feel, because in those days reputation is everything. So he’ll have to rescue her and seal his own fate…
Great story with a lot of depth and hear as well as complicated shenanigans. If you need a great holiday read, settle in. My bet? You’ll download the series because you’ll want to learn everything about the Windham world.
