Blurb: They say to keep your friends close and your enemies closer . . . Wrong.
Louisa’s new best friend has it all – the house, the status, the money. But she’s also hiding a dark secret. And as Louisa is drawn deeper into her friend’s life, events take a chilling turn . . .
Review: I really enjoyed Shalini Boland’s first book and this was just as intense and exciting to read. The characters are crisp and well defined, and some of the things that happen you see coming from a mile away, and others you don’t. Be forewarned!
Louisa is happy with her life, busy raising her son, keeping her husband happy, and writing her weekly column for the local paper. Sometimes she feels a little out of place with the elegant mothers at her son’s new school. So she’s excited when another mom approaches her for a playdate between their sons.
Darcy is one of the popular, sophisticated moms that always appear to have everything–and she and her husband are so nice! It only takes a little while for the glitter to fade, however, and underneath Darcy’s fancy exterior lies a darkness that could destroy Louisa’s life.
How do you operate when the person you believe is your friend tells you one thing but does another? Your gut is telling you something’s wrong, but all outside appearances suggest that you’re being paranoid. Making a big deal out of nothing. Darcy couldn’t be doing these things on purpose, right?
Do you listen to the words or do you watch the behavior?
I loved this book because I could have been Louisa. She wasn’t a detective or a super sleuth, she was a normal person getting bamboozled. Great read with lots of psychological suspense that kept my reading until I finished. Thanks
