Blurb: Will a budding wedding planner and her bad boy neighbor stop banging heads and start hearing wedding bells in the sexy second novel in USA TODAY bestselling author Lauren Layne’s irresistible new series that marries Sex and the City with The Wedding Planner?
When small-town girl Heather Fowler finally gets promoted from assistant to actual wedding planner, she’s determined to make it as one of Manhattan’s elite Wedding Belles. Unfortunately, her first client demands an opulent black-tie affair at the Plaza…in five months’ time. Heather’s days quickly become a flurry of cake tastings, dress-fittings, RSVP cards, and bridal tantrums. But what she’s really losing sleep over is the live music blaring from her playboy neighbor’s apartment all night.
Five years ago, Josh Tanner was an up-and-comer on Wall Street, complete with the penthouse and the migraines. But a grim cancer diagnosis made him realize there is more to life than the corner office. If only he could convince his pretty, workaholic neighbor to let loose, too. As Heather lets down her guard, Josh is surprised when he starts falling for the sweet, vulnerable woman hiding beneath those power suits. Soon, it’s Heather’s turn to convince Josh to take the biggest risk of all: love.
Review: I always love Lauren Layne’s glamorous romances with hot men and gorgeous women and this one did not disappoint! You can never go wrong reading one of her series and I’m excited about all the serial fodder in this one–can’t wait for some of the secondary characters in this book to have theirs.
The heroine in this book, Heather, is really trying to reach beyond her trailer park roots and make a name for herself in the bustling and competitive wedding planner market in New York City. I feel for her in this book, as it seems she’s in over her head with this crazy Bride who’s abdicated all of her decisions to Heather. No Bridezilla her–in fact, her bride’s a little too laissez-faire for her tastes. She’d like there to be SOME input! But since this is her chance to wow her boss and get the promotion from assistant wedding planner to full-on planner, she’s got to get every detail right. If only her neighbor wasn’t such an a$$, playing his music loudly through the night, keeping her sleep-deprived right at this crucial time.
Neighbor Josh, a one-time powerful businessman who’d had a scare with cancer that had caused him to reevaluate his life, is intrigued by his gorgeous neighbor. He’s also seriously put out by the fact that his previous elderly neighbor has moved, leaving him with a complaining neighbor and no banana bread. He soon figures out that there’s more to his gorgeous neighbor than nagging and complaining, and he sets out to charm her. What else does he have to do?
I really liked the storyline that Lauren set out in this book. While Josh had made a great decision, you could tell he wasn’t really moving on. In fact, he was letting cancer guide his life in a way that wasn’t serving him anymore. It just took a bossy woman to show him the way. The characters were incredibly sympathetic and had a lot of depth and intimacy and the author let us see it and cheer them on when they made strides. Great read! Thanks
