Blurb: Ten years and many boyfriends later, Cassidy Winters finally returns to the ancestral home of his late grandmother, Sadie Hart, despite the best efforts of his father to prevent it. Cassidy’s plans of a quiet, seaside ceremony to wish a final farewell to Sadie quickly unravel. Interruptions run roughshod, beginning with Neil, who walks out of the ocean and straight into Cassidy’s bed. The dominos topple one by one when the little dog he rescues from the hounds of hell brings him to Ben, the hunky vet who rescues Cassidy right back. News of his arrival spreads faster than Cassidy’s legs, bringing his boyhood friend and first love Nate Sommers to his doorstep — leaving Cassidy spiraling into a multi-layered love snafu. As if the island wasn’t getting crowded enough for Cassidy’s good taste and bad decisions, best friends Ollie and Spencer arrive in time to witness the uninvited return of Cassidy’s most recent ex, Teddy, who’s refusing to stay dumped.
Fists fly and all hell breaks loose amid mojitos and martinis while Cassidy finds himself planning a huge party to celebrate Sadie’s life. Accusations are aimed as arguments and libidos boil over, but even through the chaos Cassidy knows exactly who he wants. While he’s certainly willing, he isn’t sure if he’s ready or able for love and life at Pipers Point.
Review: Cassidy is finally returning to his deceased Grandmother Sadie’s house after a long legal battle with his father over her estate. He’s determined to do right by Sadie this time around by taking care of her affairs. He doesn’t want to announce his being back on the island for many reasons. Cassidy visited it every summer until his senior year. Issues with his father made him avoid the people he loved the most sending his life on a very different path than he’d imagined leaving Sadie’s house for his parent’s that last summer. Now he’s back and has to face leaving all those people he left behind with no word as to why. Everyone is happy to see him. Including Nate, his best friend and the love of his life. As if dealing with the quirky lovable townspeople and Sadie’s estate wasn’t enough to deal with. He’s now confronted with that connection he gave up with Nate. They still have an irresistable chemistry sizzling between them after all these years that proves impossible to deny no matter how hard they try. If that’s all it was between them they could just give in. There’s also history, hurt and strong undisclosed feelings lurking between them. Despite everyone on the island hoping he’s home to stay this time Cassidy is determined to leave at the end of the summer. Nate doesn’t just want a fling. He wants all of Cassidy. You know Cassidy feels the same as you read the book. Problem is he can’t seem to get out of his own way.
At Piper’s Point is an all time favorite of mine. I’ve read it multiple times but it’s been a while. Experiencing it again through this narrator was amazing. I’ve enjoyed books by Michael Lesley before. He certainly brings out the personalities of all the characters to the point you almost forget it’s just one guy! He’s always very entertaining. In At Piper’s Point he managed to to capture Cassidy’s struggle so well. He’s fun and flirty but he’s also dealing with Sadie’s death and the guilt he has from abandoning her. His unresolved feelings for Nate. His friends join the mix with zero filter. An ex boyfriend and a new hook up complicate things even further. The life he’s built isn’t at the Point but the memories of being there and cast of lovable characters that insert themselves back into his life reminds him how much that place feels like home. He wants to resist the pull to stay but it’s there. Then Nate the love of his life appears and things just get harder. The story is told from Cassidy’s POV and I actually think I picked up on some things while listening this time around I didn’t notice while reading the book. Which just made me love listening to this book even more. OMG Ollie brought to life was sooooooo much fun. He’s too damn much! I forgot how outrageous and awesome his character was. The interpretation of Nate’s character was fabulous too. He’s been pining away for Cassidy all these years. Now that he has him back he’s torn between wanting him and not settling for another notch in Cassidy’s belt. You could feel the pain and need there. There’s a little bitterness between them because of what could have been. The sexual and emotional tension practically explodes throughout the book. Bringing you to the peak just to throw some cold water on you. I love it! I laughed out loud. I cried. I swooned. This book is the total package for book lovers who like to be entertained while also being completely immersed in a wonderfully written story. It’s a must read IMO. Or listen to the audiobook because it was fantastic!!!
