BlurbBestselling author Marty Wingate “plants clever clues with a dash of romantic spice,” raves Mary Daheim. Now Wingate’s inimitable gardening heroine, Pru Parke, is importing a precious bloom from Texas—and she won’t let a vicious murder stop her.

Pru’s life in England is coming full circle. A Texas transplant, she’s married to the love of her life, thriving in the plum gardening position she shares with her long-lost brother, and prepping a Chelsea Flower Show exhibit featuring the beloved bluebonnets of the Texas hill country. Technically, Twyla Woodford, the president of a gardening club in the Lone Star State, is in charge of the London event, but Pru seems to be the one getting her hands dirty. When they finally do meet, Pru senses a kindred spirit—until Twyla turns up dead.

Although Twyla’s body was half buried under a wall in their display, Pru remains determined to mount a spectacular show. Twyla would have insisted. So Pru recruits her husband, former Detective Chief Inspector Christopher Pearse, to go undercover and do a bit of unofficial digging into Twyla’s final hours. If Pru has anything to say about it, this killer is going to learn the hard way not to mess with Texas.

Review: Who doesn’t love a good cozy? I know that I do. It’s certainly delightful to travel in your mind’s eye to a different place and meet new friends and old enemies, especially when it’s a native Texan planted in glorious England. I have to admit part of the thrill for me in this series is that Pru is a Texan and I recognize a lot of the things and places she talks about while reminiscing about home, plus I’m a gardener. Two things in one for me!

In this particular story, an Austin garden club won a spot in the prestigious annual Chelsea Flower Show. Their plot was to showcase Texas’s state flower, the Bluebonnet, along with the Texas Hill Country. Pru is approached by a friend of a friend and asked to help. She’s excited to be amongst fellow Texans and working at the Chelsea Show is a dream, so off she goes to help.

But there’s something off, and it soon becomes apparent that there is dissension among the ranks of the club. When the President, Twyla, is delayed, Pru takes over as an ad hoc leader, directing the ladies and helping the British part of the team, Chiv, get things started. But, between delays in getting stock, accidents on the site, and Twyla appearing only to be found murdered, her body hidden under a pile of rocks.

Who seems determined to stop the Austin ladies from completing their plot?

With lots of leads and not a lot of time to research them, a suspicious police detective, and danger surrounding the job site, Pru is racing against the clock to solve this murder. Great mystery/cozy from Marty Wingate!
