Blurb: In this seductive novel from the author of Bound to You, two career-oriented friends with benefits discover that good morning doesn’t have to mean goodbye.
Late-night booty calls are the most romantic gesture that Carlie Jason expects from business magnate Tomas Goodfellow. Ever since they were teenagers, they’ve provided each other the kind of no-strings pleasures that don’t involve regrets. Now Carlie finds it easier to kiss and run rather than face the fact that she wants so much more. But when she takes a job as a concierge at one of Tomas’s properties, a hotel where the rich and famous get their kink on, Carlie’s tempted to reconsider the rules of surrender.
As the head of an international empire, Tomas knows how to bring out the best in his employees. Putting Carlie in charge of managing the desires of his wealthiest clients was a stroke of genius—only now that she’s close enough to touch, he finds he doesn’t want to let her go. Their long, dark history has built up intimacy in ways he’s only just beginning to understand, but Tomas isn’t ready to trust her just yet. He knows his feelings are more than skin-deep. But first he needs to convince Carlie of one thing: the ties that bind go straight to the heart.
Review: This latest in the At Your Service series brings us the mysterious Carlie, who was located in London in the first book Bound to You. As with the first book, it involves the wealthy world in Boston, but this novel had a twist all its own.
Carlie had been in the foster system along with Penny and Sophie, but she hasn’t been put in until she was eight months old. She had always wanted to search for her birth parents because she really wanted to know why she was given up after the time spent with them–had she been a horrible baby? So when she received information on their last known address, she put her London concierge business in the hands of her capable assistant and traveled to Boston to see if she could find them.
Tomas had given up trying to pin Carlie down. In fact, he’d given up on most things with her except for the one night stands she instigated every few years. He’d hoped to help her by sending her the address for her birth parents, since he knew his abandonment of her in their past had only exacerbated the bone-deep sadness she felt by being given up by her them.
When the address ended in a dead end, Carlie found herself looking for work so that she could continue to stay in Boston and search. The best job she could find was at a hotel that Tomas owned. Tomas, the boy/man she’d fallen in love with at sixteen. The man she could never trust not to abandon her again. But working for him would be different, right? She might even never see him.
Keep trying to convince yourself of that, Carlie. Tomas sees an opening and he’s going to take it.
Great story of how two lonely, damaged people learn to lean on each other and support one another through life’s hard times. Of course, the sexy dialogue and even racier backstory of Floor Twenty-Two add spice! Thanks!
