Blurb: When Emily Wayborn goes home to visit her mom while on hiatus from her hit TV show, she receives a voicemail from her former best friend, Amber. Though the two were once notorious party girls, they haven’t spoken in years. Although the message might sound benign to anyone else, Amber uses a safe word that Emily recognizes, a word they always used to get out of sticky situations during their wild days. And what’s more chilling than the voicemail: it turns out that Amber has gone missing.
Now Emily is on the hunt to find out what happened to Amber, a hunt that leads her to sexy enigmatic billionaire Reeve Sallis, a hotelier known for his shady dealings and play boy reputation. Reeve might have had something to do with Amber’s disappearance, but Emily can’t help the way she reacts to him.
Time is running out and Emily must figure out who she can trust and if she can trust her feelings.
Review: I really enjoyed First Touch, the first book in this series, and this one took over right where it left off. I was a little confused at first because I’d read the first one a while ago, but I quickly caught up with what was happening–so I think it could easily be read as a standalone. But why would you not want to have the complete experience? I suggest reading them both in order.
Amber and Emily’s past was really sad and strange, but it explained a lot about how Emily operated in the world and in her relationships with men. For a long time, relationships were treated as transactions and she was a commodity to these men. Luckily she’d moved past that, but getting the phone call with their code word for help had dragged her back into that milieu.
Emily had started the relationship with Reeve in order to find out where Amber was or if she was even still alive. But their relationship became so much more… And just when Emily’s ready to take the next step…guess who shows up, badly beaten?
Is she going to let Emily have Reeve? Or is she going to call dibbs on him because she had him first, and force Emily to let him go? What does Reeve think about it?
And is Amber bringing trouble their way?
Hot, edgy and sensual, Laurelin delivers on what she promised in the first of this series. Great read for the summer! Thanks
