Blurb: Most omega werewolves want a mate and pups, but Lee Aung prefers an unconventional party-boy lifestyle. Yet at forty-two, he’s stopped going into heat, which means he’s expired goods—no longer a fertile, young omega that alpha wolves drool over. So Lee uses Wet Heat, a synthetic pheromone, to reel in the alpha hookups.

After losing his job at the bank, Lee can’t afford to keep up his Wet Heat habit. His solution: scam free samples by pretending to be a happily mated test subject at Wet Heat headquarters. There, Lee spends two years being interviewed by the reserved alpha scientist, Cain, who at thirty-two is unmated and—up until this point—content with that.

Cain never really felt his alpha instincts, nor took part in the usual alpha/beta/omega social dynamics. But after discovering that Lee has been lying about his unmated status for two years, Cain finally admits that for the first time, he wants to court an omega. Unfortunately, he’s picked the one omega who doesn’t want to be courted.

Review:  This novella was an interesting mingling of the roles of shifters in their society and aging out of the club scene. Wet heat is about a gay man over his “Prime” status and therefore no longer sought after for hooking up. In this world you have your traditional shifter categories Alphas, Betas and Omegas. In this shifter society and Omega usually mates with one of the other two groups and submits to their whims in exchange of being taken care of. Alphas and Betas have a need to protect Omegas. It’s a cycle that works for most of them. Not our MCs however. Or not until they meet each other.

Lee is an omega and well past the point a wolf shifter usually would be mated. He never wanted that life. He in fact bucks that stereotype every chance he gets. He likes hooking up every night with different men. Now that he’s older however he needs a cologne like pheromone called Wet Heat to turn on the Betas and Alphas. He lost his job. He’s losing his apartment. Yet his days revolve around getting samples of Wet Heat so all the boys will want him. Lee even joined a product study under false pretenses which is how he meets Cain who is charge of the study. Cain knows Lee is lying to him and for the free samples of Wet Heat. Lee being a bad bad boy triggers Cain’s Alpha dominance. Something he has never felt before and can’t seem to ignore. Cain wants to explore what he’s feeling with Lee. Lee doesn’t want a mate. So a power struggle ensues.

For me Lee was likable but also kind of a ridiculous character. He had his moments where I wanted to smack some sense into him. Not because he had to submit to a role in life he didn’t want. I get that he shouldn’t have to but because he was so focused on getting screwed every night he lost site of everything else in his life. I personally just can’t wrap my head around it. Part of me knows it’s just him doing everything he can to ignore the fact he’s not happy with where his life. It’s easier to ignore truths you don’t want to hear. Doesn’t make him any less frustrating to read about. My favorite thing about this book was Cain. I loved him! He also bucks the normal Alpha status to do his own thing. I love a character who has a distinct voice and thought process and his was a lot of fun to read about. He’s very practical and calm. Until he’s with Lee and then he’s feeling so many new things. Cain and Lee as couple were entertaining and gave the book good humor and tension. I think the baddie was kind of obvious but that’s not always a bad thing.

Considering the length of this story I thought the struggle of the characters in this world was pretty in depth. I got to know the MCs. Loved Cain. Lee was a super horny forty year old that frustrated me frequently. I did like the story though. When the MCs were on page together I kind of loved it. Cain and his “MINE” attitude towards Lee totally worked for me because he didn’t want to feel that way but he’s a wolf shifter and Lee’s bad boy antics brought out the need to control him. It was both sexy and fun to read about. I liked it!
