Blurb: LOVE IS A BATTLEFIELD
Lachlan Sinclair cannot escape his accursed heritage in his Highlands homeland. Somewhat resigned to the fate that destroyed his ancestors, he is prepared to live his life without an heir, without a wife—without love. But when he meets the woman of his dreams in the flesh, the bewitching lass makes him want to throw away his cursed, restrained existence…and unleash the highlander within…
Lana Dounreay has only seen the Duke of Caithness in her dreams as a wild, rugged man, while in reality, his life has been cramped by curses and cravats. He may have forgone his kilt and lost his brogue, but Lana knows that the heart of a true Scotsman beats within his broad, muscular chest. But what plans does the mysterious, passionate Lachlan have in mind for her—and can she convince him that love is stronger than all else?
Review: What a great historical romance! Sabrina York is one of my favorite go-tos for great historical characters and amazing plot arcs and this one did not disappoint. I’m just sad I haven’t already read the first two in this series!
Lachlan has had a miserable life, raised by unfeeling relatives and shady retainers who’ve filled his head with nonsense about a curse on the dukes of Caithness living past thirty. It was very well played as the truth slowly dawned on me throughout the book as it must have to Lachlan. What jerks!
I loved Lana and her freedom and spontaneity as she set about her life, knowing her gift made her different. It broke my heart when she overheard those two jerks making fun of her. Luckily she didn’t let that stand in her way when she met Lachlan. What a shock it was to see the man she’d been dreaming about for years show up on her sister’s doorstep. But he didn’t look like the glorious warrior from her dreams… He looked pinched and downtrodden and very unlike she knew him to be in her mind. What was wrong with him?
Lachlan recognized Lana immediately from his dreams and found it harder than ever to contain himself. It was difficult to remember that he was dying in six months and it wouldn’t be fair to fall in love and leave her–it would be too hard for both of them. But why is he so drawn to her?
Spending time with Lana and her family made Lachlan start questioning things in his world. Learning the truth about how his parents had died made Lachlan curious about why he’d been deceived, and put his life even more in jeopardy… as well as those around him. What was so important that he needed to die?
Great romantic suspense with hot and sexy characters and a great HEA! Thanks
