Blurb: A tough cop with an even tougher past, Hunter Sloan has never let anyone stop him from getting what he wants—and he wants Evangeline Ambrose bad. With her gentle curves and raw vulnerability, Hunter’s beautiful, mysterious new neighbor awakens his protective side. Determined to do right by a woman who’s gone through hell and back, Hunter could be the one to take away the pain—so long as his own secrets don’t sink their relationship before it begins.
Having escaped an abusive marriage, Evangeline simply wants to start over in the small, quiet town of Forrestville. She’s also avoiding all contact with the opposite sex, because she just can’t trust her instincts when it comes to men—not even with the sinfully sexy cop next door. So why can’t she stop thinking about him? Hunter has darkness in his soul, and yet no one ever made her feel so safe. For all her best-laid plans, Evangeline didn’t count on choices this hard—or temptation this hot.
Review: This sweet tale about finding love when you least expect–or want–it was just the palate cleanser I needed after reading some pretty scary mystery books. There wasn’t a lot of angst, the secret keeping was kept to a minimum, and the characters were pretty realistic about getting over finding things out about the other. Perfect great summer read for those who have a sunny (or rainy) afternoon to devote to a great read.
Evangeline has finally gotten away from her abusive husband Penn. She’s gotten over her attraction to men in uniform too–or so she thinks–until she runs into the cop that had helped her on the day she’d finally escaped from her abusive ex. Badly beaten and terrified beyond her endurance, she’d clung to him after he’d found her on the side of the road, only feeling safe within his arms. But things are different now. She’s determined not to count on any man to survive. And when the gorgeous cop who’d helped her shows up across the hall from her new apartment, it stirs up all kinds of things in her tummy; the scariest of which is desire.

Hunter joined the police department because he wanted to make a difference in people’s lives. Raised by an abusive father with a mother who’d stayed for sixteen years in that situation, he understands all too well what Evangeline went through. He wants to help her and comfort her again, if only she’d stop pretending that she doesn’t remember him. Breaking the barriers between them is going to take a lot of patience, but he’s ready for the task.
Both Hunter’s got a secret that might scare Evangeline. He knows that he needs to tell her, but what if it makes what he’s dreaming about never come true?
Sweet, sexy and sentimental, this story will charm you with the wonderful characters and their emotional journey as they both find a way to beat the past and find a new future with one another. Thanks!
