Review: A great historical romantic suspense filled with spies, national secrets, aristocrats and PTSD, nineteenth-century style. The most amazing part is that they all fit together beautifully in this third of the series book. It read completely as a stand-alone, so don’t worry if you haven’t read the others in the series. This one completely captures the two main characters as they meet and fall into what they both think is an impossible love…

A year earlier, Thomas had been shot while walking home. Ironic, with all the danger that he’d faced both as a soldier and an international spy. While he’d recovered from his serious wound physically, he’d failed to get his nerve back. He kept having flashbacks that would trigger panic attacks–behavior certainly not befitting a spy. All he dreams about is getting his job back, and luckily he gets a chance when a friend of his father asks him to investigate a rash of carriage robberies that have been happening near his home. Thomas sees this as a way to get back in the good graces of the Home Office and convince them he’s recovered mentally and physically.

Unfortunately, that’s easier said than done. Especially when he discovers the true identity of the thief and where the money goes.

Josephine has always felt out of place with her adopted family, though they’ve never once done anything to cause her to feel they don’t consider her one of their own. Society judges harshly those they consider not of their league, and Jo’s already felt the burden of her past as an orphan not only in the faces of the women she must deal with but also in the cavalier way the men treat her. Determined not to care and content with her life as a spinster, her world is turned upside down when she meets the handsome stranger. Not only does she find him attractive, he seems very clever. Like he might be able to uncover the secrets she’s hiding…

Great characters with a love story that’s fresh, sexy and timeless. I’m off to read the first two! Thanks!
