Blurb: When Nolan Kincaid skipped town to chase the music career of his dreams, he knew he wouldn’t miss the reminders of his broken family—he wasn’t so sure he could forget the girl he left behind. Now his band is touring nonstop, the recording sessions go all night, and the groupies are crazed. But when he hears that Hailey Wilkins is in trouble, he drops everything.
Hailey thought she’d missed her chance with Nolan. Five years ago, the moment she realized she loved him was the moment he decided to leave. Now, when a brutal assault lands her in the ICU, Nolan flies straight to her bedside, acting like nothing’s changed. What’s a rock star like him doing, canceling shows and risking his record deal, just to nurse an old friend back to health? And why should Hailey believe he’ll stay this time?
With her attacker still at large, Nolan’s ready to rise to the occasion. He knows he let Hailey down once before, but he’s ready to give her everything, heart and soul—and he’ll fight for the chance to prove it.
Review: I’ve grown to really enjoy romances about rock stars, and this was really had a lot more than fun and romance to it. There was a depth and growth to the characters that was surprisingly intimate, which gave the plot an added dimension that I really enjoyed. It wasn’t a simple romance at all!
Rocker Nolan left Northbridge five years ago. He’d run as far away as he could, trying to escape his father’s horrific crime and the death of both his sister Sarah and his mother. But he’d also left behind the girl he loved, Hailey. Finding out that she’d been attacked and was in a coma devastated him and he’d rushed to her side.
Unfortunately, his band’s manager and the rest of the guys didn’t appreciate that. But they were all exhausted from the long tour their band Pushing Limits had just completed, and he’d chosen to ignore the fact that the record label expected the band to go into the studio and record their next record in 3 weeks. He was just tired and the very thought of Hailey in a coma? He was gone.
Hailey’s got a lot going on. She’s coming back from the attack that had put her into a coma; she’s been devastated at Nolan leaving her five years before and NEVER getting in contact with her after he left; and last, the retrograde amnesia. She doesn’t remember what happened for at least five days before the attack. Crap! She feels blindsided and Nolan showing up is seriously freaking her out. Why had he totally abandoned her before?
As Nolan and Hailey slowly reconfigure their relationship from high school best friends into young adult lovers, the plot behind why she ended up in a coma still continues. What dark forces are working behind the scenes, and why had Hailey been targeted? Her lack of memory about what happened makes her feel like a sitting duck, and even though she and Nolan are working things out, she’s sure that he’d never want to return to their old hometown. Will he ask her to come to L.A.? Or is their relationship meant to last only the length of time he’s in town?
Mixing the high-octane life of a celebrity rocker who’s in the limelight with a small town want-to-be physical therapist is very complicated, and when you add in secrets from the past and someone who’s got nothing to lose, bad things can happen. Great summer read!
