Blurb: DEA agent Nick Archer puts his life on the line every day. A former Marine, he fears nothing . . . except commitment. Nick has no trouble finding women eager to warm his bed, and no problem sending them on their way the morning after. Relationships don’t mix with risky careers, a fact Nick learned the hard way after his marriage fell apart. He’d go it alone if it weren’t for his new K-9 partner—and the stunning trainer who makes Nick sit up and take notice.

Just like her service dogs, Jamie Chambers knows how to sniff out trouble. From the moment Nick swaggers into her kennel, she knows he’s heartbreak waiting to happen, and he wastes no time getting under her skin. Hell, he doesn’t even like dogs. As a cop’s widow, Jamie has felt the sting of loss in the line of duty, yet she recognizes something of her own pain in Nick’s smoldering gaze. Jamie knows there are no guarantees in life. But a moment of pleasure, however fleeting, holds the promise of forever—and for that, Jamie’s willing to take the plunge.

Review: WOW! I really liked this romantic suspense by Kathy Clark. The combination of Jamie the veterinarian and Nick the DEA agent was great, and being a native Texan, I loved the backdrop of Austin. Kathy Clark did a great job of blending the environment into the story and making it sing. The characters were original, and I’m really hoping the next two in the series let us know more about the characters we met in this book.

Jamie lost her police officer husband five years before, and the incredible pain she’d suffered made her decide to play it safe and not ever fall in love again. That way she wouldn’t have to go through it ever again. Luckily it hasn’t been an issue up to now since she hasn’t met anyone who tempted her to want more. But then she met Nick when he came to get his dog from her kennel…and there were **fireworks**. Could she be like a man and have a sexual relationship and not make an emotional connection? She was interested enough to try.

Nick loved being a special agent, but he’d been screwing up lately. When he accidentally arrested a politician’s son on bogus charges, it made the scandal sheets as well as making his boss crazy. As a consequence, he was being forced into taking a service dog as his partner. He wasn’t happy about it until he saw the dog trainer. She was hot! And he sensed she was also into him.

From the setup, you’ll know you’ve read this situation before, but I’m going to challenge you with this book. It’s definitely worth reading. The writing is great and the plot is outstanding. The characters interaction with the secondary characters as well as the unique environment makes this story come alive.
