Special Agent Lara Grant will do anything to get her mark—until her last undercover case, infiltrating the notorious Moretti crime ring, forced her to get close to the top. Way. Too. Close…
Now starting a new job in New York City, all Lara wants is to leave the ghosts of her past behind. Until a dramatic sniper attack leaves Lara’s face – and real name – all over the media. In the blink of an eye, her cover is blown, her identity exposed.
Then a woman’s body is found, branded with the ritual Moretti tattoo. Someone knows who Lara is…and exactly how to make her pay…
Part 1 of 8 in a chilling, high-octane FBI thriller TOUGH JUSTICE from NYT bestselling author Carla Cassidy and Tyler Anne Snell, Carol Ericson and Gail Barrett.
Review: This series really interests me. It was engaging and suspenseful, and even though I’m not a huge fan of cliffhangers, this one is pretty good. Knowing that there were 8 books going in eased the pressure, but I have to say I’m eager to get to the next one!
Lara been through the wringer the last couple of years. Her entire outlook on life has changed–for the worst–since working undercover as an illegal arms runner in the Moretti gang. They were trafficking in humans, women and children specifically, and she’d hated knowing that there were innocents being tortured and sold and she couldn’t do anything about it without blowing her cover. Talk about a sacrifice for the greater good ~ Luckily the gang had been destroyed and the leaders sent to jail. Now she can get on with her life.
She’s hoping that joining the FBI’s new Crisis Management Team will give her a new focus and allow her to leave those memories in the past. Before she can even get to the first meeting on her first day, though, she’s called to the scene of a possible jumper asking specifically for her. While she’s up on the window ledge negotiating with him, it just seems like a regular situation–until a stamp kit with the Moretti gang logo is found in his pocket. WTF? She might have thought everything was over with the Moretti gang, but apparently they weren’t through with her.
And if she knew anything about Moretti, it was that if he found out where she was, he would be coming after her.
Gritty and intense, this story has only whetted my appetite for more. Can’t wait to read on! Thanks
