Blurb: From the hellhole of a Taliban prison to sweet freedom, five brave military heroes have made it home—and they’re ready to take on the civilian missions no one else can. Individually they’re intimidating. Together they’re invincible. They’re the men of ARES Security.

Rafe Vargas is only in Newton, Iowa, to clear out his late grandfather’s small house. As the covert ops specialist for ARES Security, he’s eager to get back to his new life in Texas. But when he crosses paths with Annie White, a haunted beauty with skeletons in her closet, he can’t just walk away—not when she’s clearly in danger…

There’s a mysterious serial killer on the loose with a link to Annie’s dark past. And the closer he gets, the deeper Rafe’s instinct to protect kicks in. But even with his considerable skill, Annie’s courage, and his ARES buddies behind him, the slaying won’t stop. Now it’s only a matter of time before Annie’s next—unless they can unravel a history of deadly lies that won’t be buried.

Review:  What a great team!  Rafe, Max, Hauk, Teagan and Lucas are all highly skilled ex-soldiers who went to hell and back in a Taliban prison.  They survived by supporting each other, and escaped after five weeks of torture.  At the urging and persistence of Rafe Vargas, they moved to Houston, pooled their resources and started Ares Security.  These guys are terrific, and I’m already looking forward to book two in this new series by Ms. Ivy.

Just as the guys are getting their new security business up and running, Rafe gets a call from a realtor in Newton, Iowa that his grandfather’s house has been sold and he needs to clean out the house for the new buyer.  He would rather do nearly anything than go through the belongings of a cranky old grandfather that he barely knew.  But he’s a responsible guy and takes off to do his duty.  On one of his first days in Newton,  he sees a lonely woman in the local diner.  She looks a little shy, maybe a little scared…and she is drop-dead gorgeous.

Annie White has problems, not the least of which are the terrifying dreams or visions that have been haunting her for weeks.  She sees women being chased and terrorized.  This is particularly disturbing for her.  She’s the daughter of the Newton Slayer…and barely escaped being one of his victims when she was just 12 years old.  Annie fires up all of Rafe’s protective instincts immediately.  He is attracted, of course, but it’s much more than that.

I enjoyed this book.  A lot.  The writing is perfect and the characters are realistic.  The guys are all very capable, but not so skilled that they don’t need help in dangerous situations.  And they all help Rafe as he tries to help Annie figure out what is happening in the present as well as in her past.

This is a first rate story.  I recommend it highly for anyone who loves romantic suspense as much as I do.  The romance is a slow burn that doesn’t interfere with the main story line, but enhances it beautifully.  Congratulations to the author for creating these great characters.  Buy a copy and…

Enjoy!
