Blurb: This boyfriend business is about to get a whole lot more personal…
Event planner Lexi Mannis has a busy life in Chicago—too busy to have a boyfriend. For special occasions, she has her Stand-In Boyfriend, Mac Northrop. Mac offers (almost) all the perks of a real boyfriend—furniture assembly, a date to big events, and someone to cook for. But they’ve never been “with benefits”…until one wickedly hot night crosses the line.
Mac’s been in love with Lexi for ages. He knows he should probably end it, but dammit, he just can’t. When things get deliciously down and dirty, Mac is certain that he’s made the leap out of the friend zone…until Lexi decides she wants to remain friends. With benefits.
What Lexi doesn’t know is that she’s running out of time. And if she won’t promote Mac to Real Boyfriend, she might just lose her Stand-In Boyfriend to someone else…
Review: Kelly Jamison writes hot, funny and sweet romances and I really love her stuff. Some of it is romantic suspense and some a little more erotic, but this novella is just a great romance with lots of heat. Plus it’s a trope we all love–friends to lovers.
Lexi’s an event planner in Chicago with two dad’s and a busy life. She’s been burned in the past so she really doesn’t want a “real” boyfriend, just someone to be her “escort” to things. She usually gets off with one-night stands or the equivalent short-term dating strategy. She’s always had her good friend Mac to help her out so she doesn’t really need anyone else.
Mac was a nerd in college and is just now coming into his own. His business has taken off and he’s wildly successful and he just wishes that Lexi would see him as something other than just a friend. But it doesn’t seem like she’s ever going to, so he’s prepared to always stay there, in the “friendzone,” because being with her as a friend is better than NOT being with her.
One night, though, they get toasted and get together. The sex is amazing and Mac is hoping that it’s going to become more–but Lexi shuts it down. Her fear of commitment and getting hurt keeps her from realizing that her feelings for Mac are more. But like Pandora’s box, she can’t STOP feeling those sexual feelings for Mac–so she decides friends with benefits might work.
Thankfully, Mac grows a pair and decides he can’t. His feelings for her are too strong, and it would break his heart to pieces every time she used him and then walked away. Before he can tell Lexi, she sees him at a party with a date…and she’s instantly jealous. Will she realize her real feelings for Mac? Or will fear keep her from changing their status from stand-in to real? Hot funny sexy and sweet–I loved it!
