Blurb: Undercover…

Undercover vice cop Russell Bridger hates his new assignment doing surveillance on the home of a suspected traitorous spy. That is, until he receives orders to cozy up to the man’s sweet, beautiful neighbor…and find a way to move in with her for the duration. But things don’t go as smoothly—or seductively—as he’d hoped when she tells him she hates cops with a passion and wants nothing to do with him, his lies, or his damn assignment.

Or under the covers…?

Cops in Mary Alice Flannery’s family keep dying, and she doesn’t think she can take another shot to her heart. So when the infinitely sexy road crew guy she’s crushing on big time turns out to embody her worst nightmare, she must decide what kind of future she wants…safe and lonely, or wild and dangerous but filled with love?

Review: I absolutely adored this quirky little romance from Nina Bruhns and I’m so glad I requested it at the last minute! It might have been a late pick to review, but it’s been one of my favorites to read. Thanks, Ignite!

Mary Alice has had it with loving cops. She lost her uncle early in life; then three years ago, she’d lost her fiance Jack and then, a few weeks later, her dad. It’s too hard to live a man who might not come home. Luckily, she’s got her handy dandy life plan to follow for happiness and believe me, not being a cop is high on her list of qualifications for her life partner. But a road construction worker? That’s who she’s been ogling the last few days? Really?

Has it come to this?

Russell Bridger knows better than to mix business with pleasure–especially in undercover surveillance. But when his boss tells him he’s got to get into Mary Alice’s house so he can watch her neighbor Charlie, he’s got no choice. He can’t give away his real identity, so he’s got to flirt and pretend to want a relationship as Bridge the construction worker. Unfortunately pretending comes easily since he’s actually very attracted to her–too much, really. What’s he going to do when things heat up? When she finds out the truth, she’s going to kill him.

And he knows he’s not good enough for her, especially since his mother had made him promise that as long as he was a cop, he wouldn’t get involved with a woman and break her heart if he got killed. His mother’s stress over his dad’s job had caused her stroke–he just knew it.

In Ms Bruhns’s hands, this “learn to let go” romance runs the gamut of emotions, taking the reader on a rollercoaster ride of sad then mad then glad with a couple of stops in between for some lusciously hot sex and some suspenseful scenes that fooled even me! Great new romance I really enjoyed reading–thanks!
