Blurb: Christopher Winslow, the youngest of the four Winslow brothers, was born with a silver spoon in his privileged mouth, which has made it difficult for him to establish his credibility in the fast-approaching congressional race. Working against the clock to assure Pennsylvania voters that he is forthright, trustworthy and able has been an exhausting challenge, but Christopher’s chances at beating the incumbant look good.
Julianne Crow, a plus-size model struggling to make ends meet, jumps at the chance to make a little extra cash on the side. What does she have to do? Slip something into Christopher Winslow’s drink and take some very naughty pictures with him.
But Christopher is nothing like Julianne expected, and when her actions sabotage his hard-earned campaign only a month before the election, her guilt is overwhelming. She offers Christopher her help in an effort to repair the damage she’s caused, but can anything change the fact that he sees her as an opportunist and a mercenary? When she starts campaigning for Christopher, he may find out there’s more to her than meets the eye.
Review: Katy Regnery’s got a powerful storytelling voice; and with each new story I read, I feel the momentum growing like a volcano about to erupt. I consider her to be the next Nora Roberts. Her talent is boundless, her story crafting is flawless, and her speed and execution are mountains above anyone else I’ve ever read–bar none. I feel really lucky to have gotten in on the ground floor with this writer because I think she’s going to go the distance.
Christopher, Christopher. I was already predestined to both love and hate you. Love because my baby brother is named Christopher. Hate because you were SUCH a jacka$$ to Cameron in his book–and you weren’t exactly a bed of roses in the beginning of this book, either! I must have fallen in love with you right along with Julianne, and that’s what makes this book so amazing and such a fun read!
And that’s why Katy Regnery is an auto-buy for me. You get sucked right into the story and feel like it’s happening to you!
Christopher Winslow is running for Congress. He’s worked hard to shed his privileged background and gain a broader appeal, and it’s worked. Apparently a little too well, because his opponents have gotten nasty. One night, a month before the election, he got roofied at an event and scandalous photos were published that totally destroyed his image and his lead. WTF?
Julianne Crow got played by the oldest trick in the book–she let her insecurity take over and she assumed that since Christopher was handsome and wealthy, he must also be an arrogant jerk. When she was approached by a stranger with damaging information about him, she fell for it–hook, line, and sinker–and agreed to help him take Christopher down. Only after she’d destroyed his chances did she think to check her sources and find out it wasn’t true.
The true magic of this book is how Julianne makes up for what she did and of the enormous amount of crap she has to take to get to the end. Regnery shows huge developmental growth in both characters, but I’m especially impressed by Julianne. Her strength of character and her boundless resilience spoke to me. She wasn’t a pushover by any means and she gave as good as she got, but she has so much quiet strength and integrity. I was so proud to see the people that Julianne and Christopher had become by the end of the book–but what a crazy, whirlwind trip to get there!
As always, Regnery’s spellbinding narrative and intricate plotting combine to create a feast for the senses! Her extensive research into the background of the Native American heroine was impressive and added an extra element into the story for me. Just an overall wonderful new addition into the Blueberry Lane series! Thanks, Katy!
