Blurb: Handsome and tough Jake Tanner, a veteran and the owner of a successful security firm, never lets his past hold him back. Despite his prosthetic hand and foot, women swoon over him—and with him between the sheets. Yet Jake feels bored and restless…until he’s hired to protect a beautiful writer whose life is in terrible danger.
Self-imprisoned by the fear of the anonymous stalkers who threaten her life, video-game writer Natalie Beck now only dreams of the world outside her pink-bedecked apartment. Trusting people again is off-limits. But the more time Jake spends with her, the more his professional commitment evolves from simple duty to scorching desire. While deeply sensual sparks ignite between the two, the danger outside circles closer. Will Jake’s intense devotion be enough to save Natalie? Or will she turn away from the one man willing to do anything to save her?
Review: This book just sucked me in and kept me going all last night! There was a mystery inside it and I was right about one part and totally wrong about another but it kept me guessing the entire freaking time–and I loved every minute. It’s wonderful to dig deep into a book and lose yourself and this one did.the.trick! Amazing suspenseful read from Jen Frederick!
Through a series of really sucky life events, Natalie Beck has become agoraphobic and is currently self-imprisoned in her apartment. She can’t leave and can’t stand to have anyone but a very few people come in it. She’s afraid of BEING afraid! Terrible things have happened to her that make her afraid to go outside–rightly so–but she’s so afraid of her reaction at this point–that she’ll freak out so badly if something does happen–that she’s convinced herself not to even try.
Enter Prince Charming–or we’ll just call him Jake for our purposes. An alpha hero, former military, with two prosthetics. He’s determined to help her even before he ever sees her. When they start texting, he gets intrigued by her sense of humor and intelligence. Her voice on the phone when he finally speaks with her draws him in even more–sultry and low. What’s it going to take to get into that apartment? She’s so paranoid he’s afraid to set her off…but he can’t stand not to meet her now.
Natalie’s frantic to get over this crippling paranoia and fear. Her fear had developed because of real events, but over time it’s morphed into a huge dark cloud that’s destroyed her life, her friendships and her career. If she can’t get a handle on it soon it’s going to destroy any chances of a future!
Can she trust this man who swears he can protect her?
I cannot tell you enough how amazing the suspense is. While I might not have bought the entire plot, it was crazy and seamless enough to have this girl up all night reading it! Thanks for the great romance and smoking sex scenes, too, Ms. Fredericks. I’ve gotten the first two in the series and intend to keep reading!
