Blurb: A lie turns to love in the latest novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Taming of the Billionaire.
Billionaire Sebastian Cabral loves his family, he just doesn’t love their reality TV show, The Cabral Empire. So when his ex-girlfriend tries to rekindle their relationship on camera, Sebastian decides that drastic measures are in order.
By day, Chelsea Hall is a happy-go-lucky, rough and tumble roller derby skater. By night, she’s still living in fear of her past. Most of all, she just doesn’t want to be alone. And she really, really doesn’t want to date.
So when their mutual friends’ upcoming wedding turns Chelsea and Sebastian into fast friends, they realize they can solve both of their problems with one life-changing lie: a quick trip down the aisle.
But with one kiss, Chelsea and Sebastian suddenly realize that their pretend relationship is more real than either of them expected…
Review: Jessica Clare’s two Billionaire’s series are some of my favorite escape reading. These books usually have totally hot men and cute girls who have lots of real problems just.like.ours. You really feel something in common with these girls, whether they’re a little overweight, lost a job, got dumped, or feel really unattractive and stupid around all these hot guys. And the guys, even though they’re usually rich and alpha and “all that,” have some little thing that makes them more real. Just like when you see the scruffy guy who’s obviously not shaved running out for milk. You want to take care of them! I just love these sweet and thoughtful romances, and this story ranks as one of the best.
Sebastian and Chelsea are both members of Gretchen and Hunter’s wedding party–the wedding we’ve all been vicariously living through since Beauty and the Billionaire. Both are dealing with their own issues, so when they’re faced with the craziness that is this wedding party, they make a pact. They’ll “fake date” each other! Hopefully, this will keep them safe from any and all matchmaking shenanigans. Unforeseen circumstances change the dynamics, though, and what was once just a fabricated “relationship” turns into a pretend marriage. Oops! They can still keep it platonic, right?
Not if Sebastian has his way.
At first you think The Billionaire Takes a Bride is going to follow the prescribed arc of the others–but then it becomes much more. There’s a depth and emotional richness between the two main characters that’s beautifully developed as they slowly and carefully open up to each other– plus enough heat to start a fire! There are serious, personal issues addressed, especially for Chelsea, but Ms Clare finds such a hilariously sexy way for them to overcome them that it helps you get through the horror of what happened to her. And when negative forces from her past approach his mother and threaten to topple the precarious happiness they’ve built, Sebastian saves the day with a little bit of luck and a whole lot of love. ~sigh~
This surprisingly deep, sexy romance brings more to the story than you expect–and is more emotionally engaging than any of the others I’ve read in the series. I really loved the story line and the characters development, and the addition of the roller derby was a stroke of genius! Enjoy it–it’ll make you feel amazing!
