Blurb: The acclaimed author of Striking Distance returns with more danger, intrigue, and I-Team action . . .

CIA officer Nick Andris wants revenge. His last mission failed after a Georgian arms smuggler killed his lover. He’s been tailing a woman for three weeks hoping she will lead him to his target. But there’s a problem with the intel. Holly Elise Bradshaw is nothing more than an entertainment writer with a love for sex and designer clothes. Clearly someone at Langley made a mistake . . .

When Holly finds herself in trouble, the only weapons at her disposal are her brains and her body. But they won’t be enough to handle the man who’s following her. He’s going to turn her world upside-down.

Review: I’ve missed Pamela Clare’s bright spark in the writing world and I’m so glad to see her back again. This book was a great addition to the ongoing I-Team series and had a surprising twist on this sassy heroine that everyone has really underestimated. We all knew she’d have to come up with something extreme for Holly–and she DID! Just don’t get the spins when you hit the turn and our clueless Holly is revealed for who she really is…

Cover CIA operative Nick Andris was called back home from an important assignment in Tblisi to watch Holly Bradshaw. But why? She’s an airhead! He keeps telling the people back at Langley that they’ve made a mistake, but they don’t believe him. Her connection to the Russian mobster Dudaev has to be an accident. There’s no way she’s an operative who’s getting ready to pass important US intelligence over to him in exchange for money…or something worse. She’s just too shallow!

Plus, he hates feeling attracted to her. Even though it’s been two years since the disastrous op in Batumi that’d left his girlfriend Dani dead and allowed Dubreav to go free, he’s still loyal to her. Why does he get the feeling, though, that something’s going on with everyone attached to that disastrous day? People are disappearing and he’s afraid he might be next.

Holly’s in a nightmare! Waking up beside last night’s date is normal, but waking up beside a bullet-riddled dead body isn’t! Why is she naked and covered in Dudaev’s blood? Luckily her friendship with Julian and the other I-Team husbands gets her protection from questioning by the police and a fast ride to the emergency room, but she’s going to have to come up with an explanation fast. Too bad whatever drug was in her champagne is making her head so cloudy…and painful!

When Nick smells a rat while being debriefed after the mission, he’s glad he kept a copy of the hard drive of the computer in Dudaev’s room. Because he’s suddenly on the run not only from the Russians but also from his own agency. Someone’s framed him for Dudaev’s murder and the theft of millions of dollars of contraband–and he’s going to have to stay alive long enough to prove it. Since she was the last one with Dudaev before he got killed, Nick’s got to convince Holly to be on his side in this deadly game where breaking the code might be the only way to get out alive.

Because Holly might have the only key.

Filled with all the heat and action that we’ve come to expect from this author, this story pours on the suspense as these two unexpected champions power forward to defeat an evil plan that’s rooted in the past. Read it as a stand-alone and then go back and glom on Pamela Clare’s earlier I-Team books. You’ll be glad you did!
