Blurb: Quinn has spent her whole life working in her dad’s garage, leaving her more comfortable with a carburetor than a curling iron. Her world is turned upside down when her beloved garage is bought by none other than world famous, sexy as sin, custom car builder, Tazen Watts. He’s the one man she can’t stand…even though he makes her hotter than a high performance engine in top gear.
Tazen has no use for Quinn, at least not professionally, and he’s making sure she knows it. But there’s a spark between them that she’s finding hard to ignore. She’s determined to prove her talent is as impressive as her sassy mouth. When she finds out Tazen is hiding a secret that could bring down his career and everyone involved in it, she wonders: is falling for him is going to be worth the risk?
Review: I really liked this book and I loved Quinn. She was everything we adore in a heroine–feisty, totally rocking a man’s job in a totally man-dominated field, smart and beautiful. A regular nightmare if she’s your competition–but easy to love as a character. Her getting to leave the dire situation she’s in at the beginning of the book is a great thing.
How she left is the hard part. Her father had been devastated after the death of her mother, and his growing alcoholism had caused their garage to be in financial hot water. Quinn loved working on cars–always had–and the garage was the one place she’d always been comfortable. It also held so many memories of her mom. She and the other mechanics had done their best to keep it running, but her dad’s absence was having an effect–plus, he was drinking all the profits. When famous car builder Tazen Watts shows up, threatening to buy the place, she refused. She was a fighter and she was going to do everything she could to keep the place. But after Quinn got hurt one night when her dad was drunk and out of control, he made a split-second decision that changed everything. Without giving her a chance or a choice, he sold it to Tazen.
Tazen’s had hardships of his own, and he’s not going to back down. He saw the location of the garage and he bought it–simple. Too bad Quinn got hurt in the process.
When Quinn couldn’t stomach not going back to work at the garage, even after she’d lost it, she decided to just keep showing up. Eventually, her job as the receptionist got her a chance at working as a mechanic in the shop. There, her skills proved to everyone where she really belonged–in the garage with the men, not answering the phone. And not only did she catch Tazen’s eyes with her talent as a car builder–the chemistry between them was undeniable. Could she forget about what he’d done and fall in love with him?
I think Bella did a little too good of a job making me hate Tazen in the beginning (or else I’m a real grudge holder), because I could never wrap myself around him and embrace him for the hero he was supposed to be. However, this fast and sexy read is sure to be a hit with anyone who loves alpha men, hot cars, and funny, sweet girls who are able to match men with their skills. Go girl power! Thanks!
