Blurb: As one of the big names at his family’s gym, Legends, MMA star Rory Kavanagh is used to being in the spotlight—until a gruesome leg injury knocks him out of the cage. Rory is left feeling sidelined in more ways than one, battling the inner demons that come with losing the one shot at his dreams. Then Clare walks into his life and gives him a new dream: winning her heart. There aren’t many new faces in Woodlawn these days, but this tough, beautiful stranger makes Rory want to get his life back into fighting shape.
Clare Ivers doesn’t think she’ll be able to tell anyone what really brought her to the close-knit Bronx neighborhood where she just started bartending. But her life’s on pause and her past is catching up fast, try as she might to move on—with new friends, steady work, and a chiseled alpha male trying to get her attention. Even though Rory’s more than a little intense, she can’t deny that her heart beats faster when he looks at her with those soulful silver eyes. Clare thought she was done with love, but Rory might just be man enough to show her she thought wrong.
Review: Rory Kavanagh had it all and then lost it in one fateful night. Now he’s making it through the day with a combination of pills and alcohol, one shot away from falling through the crumbling facade of competency he’s struggling to maintain. Meeting a gorgeous blonde is exciting, but punching out her boss in front of her the next minute isn’t the way he wants to make an impression. Man, is he ever going to get it together?!?!
Clare Ivers is on the run from her dangerous past and hoping she can make a fresh start in Woodlawn, NY. Maybe it’s far enough away from California and all the mistakes she made there. Rory Kavanagh is one hot mess and she’s not sure she wants to get involved with him–but she can’t resist his hot looks and aggressive charm. He’s so sweet and funny and possessive! And watching him with his rescue dog Ace and finding out they have a love of animals in common is amazing. Unless he can stop with all the drinking, though, she’s going to have to get away from him–that’s too close to Travis and all of her memories of the past. One addict in her life is enough.
Winning Clare helps Rory focus on training his brother. Even though his shot at an MMA career is finished, his life is far from over. He can help train his brother and utilize his master’s degree in business at the family gym. And the added promise of a possible future with the woman he’s falling in love with completes the picture.
But when Clare starts receiving threats from her ex and bolts one night, it’s enough to set Rory back into his old habits. That’s not going to help anybody–and when Clare finds out about his drugging, she’s terrified that she’s found just another carbon copy of her abusive ex.
Who’s going to protect Clare when Travis shows up? Can Rory clean up his act in time to become the hero she needs?
Great start to a wonderful new MMA series with lots of great secondary characters for #SequelPorn–WOOT! Love it when a great story, hot sex and believable characters all come together. Thanks!
