Blurb: Passion Lost
Memories of a dark past have left the Duke of Caradon disinclined to have any fun. But at the urging of friends, he finds himself attending a Cyprian ball in the hope that some woman will attract his attention. And one certainly does. A stunningly sensual woman who reawakens feelings of carnal desire he thought long lost. . .
Sophie Ashley knows little of the courtesan life except what she’s read in a book. A quick learner, Sophie makes her debut at the Cyprian Ball hoping to find a wealthy protector. And when she makes the acquaintance of the reclusive Duke of Caradon, she’s most eager to test her talents in the art of erotic seduction. . .
Review: This richly erotic tale of love found between an illegitimate young woman and a Duke is both engaging and light. Plus, there’s an intriguing side of mystery and dark past thrown in as well for intrigue lovers, so take note!
Sophie Ashley has got to find a protector to finance her family, which includes her son, her friend Belle, and Belle’s two children. They’ve both been thrown out by their families and need to find someone who will take care of them immediately. Living on the streets or the hedgerows just isn’t okay when there are babies to take care of, is it? Using the courtesan journals left to her by her late mother, she sets out for London and the world of the demimonde, determined to find someone who can fund their lifestyle.
However, Sophie is not really the kind of girl who should be a courtesan. She’s got feelings and heart and is just going to get crushed in this terrible world. Luckily she’s seen by none other than the Duke of Caradon, one of the “wicked dukes,” and he’s a changed man. No longer a rake and a roue after his imprisonment during the war, he feels like he needs to protect her. Since he’s trying to “get back on the horse” and be able to make love to a woman so he can produce an heir, he’s thinking that he needs to first try with a mistress–so he’ll pick Sophie, set her up, and protect her at the same time. Two birds, one stone.
Of course, things don’t work out as predicted. A meddling stranger from the past is determined to get revenge on the Duke, and he and Sohie develop feelings for each other as they go about the business of getting him back into the baby-making business. Throw in a meddling mother, a surprise baby, and you’ve got all the makings of a historical romance gone wild. But since Sharon Page is writing it, of course there’s a lot of erotic, hot sex involved. YUM!
There were many great moments in this book even though the plot didn’t work as well as I would have liked. I enjoyed this erotic romance filled with hot sex, sweet romance, and gorgeous descriptive prose. Thanks!
