Blurb: Twenty-something Kat Reid is loving life as an in-demand Hollywood makeup artist. She has absolutely no interest in rock ’n’ roll, but in order to pay the mortgage, she agrees to work on the set of a rock video for the world-famous rockers known as Bad Habit…which brings her face-to-face with Nico Nyx, lead singer of Bad Habit and Adonis in the flesh.

However, the fiercely independent Kat isn’t impressed by the hard-living, womanizing rock star. But when Nico’s model girlfriend shows up to the set drunk and Kat is tapped to replace her as the video’s sexy bride, her combustible chemistry with Nico suddenly threatens to consume the set. Nico feels it, too—and becomes determined to win Kat over, body and soul. Yet behind his rock god swagger, Nico hides a dark secret. Can he rock Kat’s world forever, or will he just break her heart?

Review: I’m torn about what to say about this vibrant story about a rocker and his professional make-up artist ladylove. I really liked aspects of it, but it was confusing and the flow was distracted and disorganized. Things moved at a rapid pace, but there wasn’t a lot of development to back them up, so they seemed improbable. Then, at the end, I read something that had happened in the author’s personal life and it all became clear. A death in her family had happened in the middle of the book. With such a disruption, I can’t even imagine how she was able to finish the book! So, I’m going to judge what was there and imagine that it’s not the book that she wanted it to be either.

Kat Reid is a great makeup artist, but working on the set of a music video isn’t her favorite gig. When she gets there, the model who was supposed to be in it is out for the count, so she’s given the opportunity of a lifetime to take her place in it–and make $30,000! She can pay off part of her hefty mortgage and get ahead on some of her bills. She’s also attracted the attention of the lead singer of the band, Nico Nyx–a smoking hot man with intense dark eyes that seem focused on her alone. After it’s over, he pursues her with intense interest–after he clears up the fact that he’s NOT actually dating the model that had to leave the set because she was passed out.

Nico’s got a lot of secrets, and he doesn’t want to tell anyone about them. But in order to get Kat to come close, he has to let her in–and make himself vulnerable. But what happens if she’s so turned off by his past that she leaves him?

Kat’s incredibly attracted to Nico, but her love life has had a lot of ups and downs and she’s not ready to get hurt again. She can tell their powerful chemistry will lead to much more than a one-night stand, but is she ready? Her friends seem a little concerned about her getting hooked up with him because of his bad-boy rocker image, but she’s more worried about her heart. With feelings this strong for each other, it’s hard not to get pulled into this crazy, addictive attraction.

When things start imploding in Nico’s life, though, it seems like their relationship is destined to be one of the things that ends. Can they find a way to be together?

I think under different circumstances, this would have been a great read. The plot was interesting, the characters had promise, and the suspense aspect was tight. With time to develop the relationships and plot, it would have been a very successful ending to a great story. I’m looking forward to the next book about them and hope things only get better for this writer!
