Blurb: THIS KIND OF BUSINESS CAN ONLY BE PERSONAL
Sage Reese lives for her job. More precisely, she lives for her debonair boss, Parker Andersen. Sage handles everything for Parker, even as she fantasizes about the one thing that isn’t in her job description: him. But when a high-stakes account crosses the line from shady to deadly, a tough cop starts giving Sage the attention she wishes Parker would . . .
Detective Dean Ryker couldn’t be more different from Parker. While Parker wears expensive suits like a second skin and drives a BMW, Ryker’s uniform is leather jackets and jeans . . . and his ride of choice is a Harley. While Parker’s sexiness is a reserved, slow burn, Ryker is completely upfront about what-and who-he’s after. And Sage tops his list.
Now, as Ryker digs deeper into the dark side of Parker’s business, Sage finds herself caught between two men: the one she’s always wanted-and the one who makes her feel wanted like never before . . .
Review: This book was a confusing, hot mess of puzzle pieces expertly scrambled by master storyteller Tiffany Snow into an intriguing blend of suspense, romance, and hot sexual tension. I wasn’t sure what was going on and I didn’t know who to believe–much like our heroine Sage.
Man, Sage works for a real dick. Parker Anderson is a complete bastard of a boss. He’s demanding, critical and overbearing. He wants and demands her attention basically 24/7, and he gets it! She’s been unable to maintain any kind of romantic relationship because he’s calling her all the time and making her come into work late. But she doesn’t mind because she’s in love with him, in a nutshell.
When Detective Dean Ryker visits the office and basically strong arms her into going on a date with him, she’s excited yet concerned about his motives. Since he seems to suspect Parker of nefarious dealings with the Russian mafia in Chicago, is his interest in her purely romantic or does he want to use her for information? Their date is of course interrupted by a phone call from Parker demanding that she return to work and complete a task that will take HOURS to finish. Since he’d seen her leave with Dean, was he purposely trying to sabotage her date? She wasn’t sure, but all of a sudden he was saying “thanks” for things and being considerate–a definite change. What was up? And what was the relationship between the two men–it was obvious that they had a history.
As things escalate between Sage and Dean, they also start escalating between her and Parker. Is he trying to compete with the sexy police officer? And when Dean confides in her about his suspicions and asks for her help, who is she going to believe? Who can she trust? It’s Parker versus Dean, and Sage’s feelings are in the middle.
This book was a fast read for me since I definitely got caught up in the hot steamy sex and fast, roller coaster suspense action. While love triangles aren’t my favorite trope, I did enjoy the pull she felt toward each man and of course, had my own favorite. Fair warning–there’s another book in the series so it’s a Happily-For-Now ending, not a Happily-Ever-After. Thanks for the engrossing and entertaining read!
