Blurb: Rancher Jack West knows what it means to love a woman with all his heart and to lose her far too soon. A widower for seven long years, he thinks love and romance are a thing of the past, nothing more than cherished memories. He devotes himself to his grown son and his family, the horses they raise, and the land that has been theirs for three generations. He doesn’t know that life has a surprise in store for him in the form of Janet Killeen, the lovely FBI agent he threw off his land last winter.

The bullet that left Janet Killeen seriously wounded also tore a hole through her life. All she wants is a little peace and quiet in the mountains, a chance to feel like herself again. That chance comes to an abrupt end when she goes off the road in a snowstorm and winds up stranded alone in a ditch. The last person on earth she wants to see is that arrogant jerk Jack West, no matter how handsome he is. But from the moment Jack finds her and offers her his hand, she realizes there’s far more to this gruff cowboy than she had imagined.

But trouble is brewing at Cimarron Ranch. A deranged man with an inscrutable motive is moving in for the kill, threatening to end Jack and Janet’s romance before they can claim a love that is … Soul Deep.

Review: If you love Pamela Clare and her I-Team series, you’re going to love this book. If you haven’t read her, this would be a good introduction to her work because you don’t really need to know a lot of background to her other stories to enjoy it. Especially if you’re in the more “mature” ::ahem:: category of romance reader and would love to read about characters who are older than 40!

Janet Killeen was a great FBI agent. She was an active woman–running daily 10Ks and rock climbing. Unfortunately for her, she got shot and badly injured when a case went south seven months earlier. She’s been in rehab recovering and has finally regained partial use of her left hip and leg. She’s on her way to a week’s retreat at her favorite resort, Forest Creek Inn, before taking up her new “desk” job at the FBI Office in Denver. She’s not looking forward to that. So many things have changed–but she’s lucky to be alive.

When her car skids into a ditch on the way there, she never imagines that she’s on Jack West’s property or that the irascible owner will find her and rescue her. Yikes! Their last meeting was contentious to say the least. When she’d tried to go onto his property on her last case, he’d thrown her off. Luckily, he shows her with his kindness helping her out of the car that he’s ready to move on from that incident. But won’t spending time with him just make things worse?

Due to the snowy conditions they’re trapped at his ranch. Forced to get along, they realize that their feelings are anything but negative. Falling in love is easy and at the same time–a big shock. When trouble comes calling, however, Jack’s glad to have an accomplished FBI special agent on hand to help. After they are inadvertently trap the villain in the barn with them, Janet’s life hangs in the balance–and Jack realizes that sometimes love can come again to a man who thought his chances were over.

Filled with Clare’s trademark wit and alpha male hotness, this novel about mature love is sure to satisfy even the most hardened readers. Jack’s heart of gold heals Janet’s sadness even as her fresh, honest approach to life enlivens his. Great, sexy story with wonderful characters, the perfect touch of suspense, and the amazing Colorado outdoors as a backdrop–who could ask for more! Thanks Pamela Clare–this will keep us until Holly’s story, Seduction Game, comes out in October!
