Blurb: Catherine Davenport Carlton needs a break. After dedicating her life to her political-minded family, shocking scandals from the past have shaken her to her core. Summer in the quiet town of Dyersport, Maine, is just what she needs, especially with a super-hot neighbor right next door…who’s none other than Brody Hollister, the boy she fell in love with as a teen. Cat wants nothing more than to pick up right where they left off eighteen years ago, but she’s still haunted by a terrible secret that could devastate Brody.
Brody Hollister spent years pining over Cat Davenport. They met young and loved passionately—until she disappeared from his life. Now she’s back, as spirited and beautiful as ever. But while Brody is determined to help Cat free herself from her family’s drama, his own family may be hiding something that could ruin their rekindled romance for good.
In Book Two of the Davenports romance series, sex and politics collide…with passionate results.
Review: What an amazing story! There were so many twists and turns that it was hard to keep up at times… All I can say is that workshop with Cherry Adair paid off! Congrats! I loved the plot twist at the end and I was so hoping that would happen.
Cat Davenport Carlton has always lived up to the Davenport name. Only once did she falter, and she’s spent the rest of her life paying for that mistake. When she was sixteen, she met and fell in love with 15-yr old Brody Hollister on her summer vacation in Maine. On their last day, hormones and emotions combined and caused them to consummate their love. When Cat returned home, she and Brody were able to stay in touch until her mother found out. She demanded to know who this boy was. Then suddenly, Emma Davenport told her daughter that she wasn’t to talk to Brody anymore. That was weird! She’d been fine with her hanging around with him all summer. Cat tried to contact him again but he was never available. And then she realized she was pregnant.
This was a disaster for the Davenport political machine! With her father in a national election, Cat’s mother needed to arrange to take care of this situation: an unwed, pregnant 16-yr old daughter. So Cat disappeared for the duration of her pregnancy and then gave her baby away for adoption moments after the delivery. Soon after, her mother told her the devastating news that her infant daughter Annabelle had died. So, there was nothing to tell Brody about anymore. Cat moved on with her life, determined to make it up to her mother for letting the family down.
Brody never knew why Cat had disappeared from his life after that summer. All he knew was that Emma Davenport had answered the phone one day when he called and told him that Cat had moved on, he need to also, and for him to never call there again. He was devastated; but soon, even more devastating news had hit his world. News about who his father was. He had a terrible fight with his mother and left her behind to meet and live with his father. It had taken over his life, and for the next few years he had faced devastating blows as the life with the father and brother he thought he could have vanished under the ugly stench of betrayal. Returning back to Maine and the teaching job that he adored, he reunited with his mother, asking for forgiveness, and the two of them became a family unit again, determined to leave the past behind and forge ahead.
But then Cat returned to Maine. To the vacation town where they’d met. She was becoming disillusioned with the Davenport political machine and the Davenport agenda. Widowed with two children and devastated by her father’s death and the secrets that had come out after it, she was seeking refuge in the one quiet place she remembered. Seeing the handsome hunk next door to her vacation beach rental was an added bonus. Until she realized it was Brody. Could fate have given her more of a hint?
This book was wonderful, with lots of romance and twists and turns and hot sex and silly funny humor. There were some squick moments when body parts were doing things they anatomically can’t do (editor!!) but otherwise, I really enjoyed it! Bravo! Thanks for the read!
