Blurb:Victor Bayne, the psychic half a PsyCop team, is a gay medium who’s more concerned with flying under the radar than in making waves. He hooks up with handsome Jacob Marks, a non-psychic (or “Stiff”) from an adjacent precinct at his ex-partner’s retirement party, and it seems like his dubious luck has taken a turn for the better. But then a serial killer surfaces who can change his appearance to match any witness’ idea of the world’s hottest guy.
Review: If you’re like me and it’s been way too long since you’ve read an old favorite this may be a good option for you. I’m a huge fan of this series. I thought the voice for Vic was so spot on. Which can be tricky when you have one voice in your head and then listen to someone reading a favorite character of yours. That was not an issue here. I loved it!
Dead people talk to Vic. That’s the skill that earns him a spot as the psychic half of a Psycop team. Sounds pretty cool unless you’re him. Having dead people seek him out to demand vengeance for their death isn’t convenient when he’s not at work solving crimes. So maybe too frequently Vic takes some prescribed meds to dampen his skill. To quiet the voices . He’s sneaking into a bathroom to pop another pill at his partners retirement party when he runs into the gorgeous stiff side of another Psycop team named Jacob. The chemistry is palpable. I still think of the opening scene of this book to be one of the sexiest I remember reading.
Vic doesn’t know how he got on Jacob’s radar. He also doesn’t get why Jacob is interested in him, but he’ll take it. Their paths cross over a case and the two get to know each other a little better. There’s a killer on the loose and he’s leaving dead naked bodies of men in their beds around the city.
I love how quirky Vic’s character is. He’s not your typical stud cop though he excels at his work . Vic is a high level Psycop who also pops pills frequently. He’s in the closet as a gay man so a relationship with Jacob, whether sexual or emotional, would be tricky. Jacob is a regular cop with no powers. He’s good at his job and happens to find all things related to Vic’s powers totally intriguing. That’s not Vic’s normal response from guys. I like the dynamic of their characters coming together. Jacob helps Vic realize some things about himself and the way he’s been living his life. Things are just getting started between them in this book. There’s so much more to look forward to.
Vic and Jacob are one of my favorite m/m couples. They’re just so good together. Opposites that compliment each other so well. I love the paranormal mysteries the stories feature. The books are amazing! I’m very impressed that the audio lived up to the books themselves. I highly recommend both.
