Blurb: Akiyoshi ‘Aero’ Kurokuma, author of the wildly popular manga, Ecos, lost his assistant when his best friend retired. After Aero collapses from exhaustion four years later, he is forced to run a contest for an assistant. Placing impossible rules on the contest, Aero is sure no one can win. But a winner emerges: a young man from America, Daniel Beck. The first time he lays eyes on Daniel, Aero realizes he’ll have a hard time hiding his attraction. Daniel is a perfect assistant, but it doesn’t help Aero see past the twenty-year age difference between them. It will take all of Daniel’s charm and the prayers offered at the shrine to make Aero take a chance on the romance they both want.

A story from the Dreamspinner Press 2014 Advent Calendar package “Celebrate!”.

Review: Aero is the author of a popular manga. Daniel wins the spot s his apprentice in a contest after Aero’s friend retires. Aero quickly develops an attraction and later affection for Daniel. He’s so stuck in his head he thinks Daniel has a boyfriend back home based on a weekly phone call. That and his age means Daniel is off limits to Aero. Aero’s friends and Daniel conspire to show Aero what he could have over the holidays.

I wanted to love this more than I did. The entire book was just so one tone and not one that kept my interest. In my romance I prefer more on page romance and less details about everything else. Especially if the book is this length. The conspiring wasn’t even exciting. I never really got a feel for the characters. Aero is difficult and thinks someone as young as Daniel would never be interested in a guy his age. I honestly can’t tell you much about Daniel besides he adores Aero. I just can’t feel for characters I don’t know and don’t care about. It’s that simple. Aero pining for Daniel just wasn’t enough for me. Bummer.
