Blurb:  In this highly anticipated fifteenth novel in the Immortals After Dark series, #1 New York Times bestselling author Kresley Cole spins a sultry tale of a mighty warrior scarred inside and out and the beguiling sorceress with the power to heal him—or vanquish him forever.

Eternal Obsession
As a boy, Thronos, prince of Skye Hall, loved Lanthe, a mischievous Sorceri girl who made him question everything about his Vrekener clan. But when the two got caught in the middle of their families’ war, tragedy struck, leaving Thronos and Lanthe bitter enemies. Though centuries have passed, nothing can cool his seething need for the beautiful enchantress who scarred his body—and left an even deeper impression on his soul.

Endless Yearning
Lanthe, a once-formidable sorceress struggling to reclaim her gifts, searches for love and acceptance with all the wrong immortal suitors. But she’s never forgotten Thronos, the magnificent silver-eyed boy who protected her until she was ripped from the shelter of his arms. One harrowing night changed everything between them. Now he’s a notorious warlord with a blood vendetta against Lanthe, hunting her relentlessly. Can the heat of desire burn brighter than vengeance?

Review: Honestly, you just can’t go wrong with one of Kresley Cole Immortal’s After Dark (IAD) paranormals. But I would suggest that you start from the beginning. That way, you can really enjoy the rich world-building and learn the different and sometimes complex sects that make up the Lore.

We’ve really been learning about Melanthe and Thronos’s story throughout the series. NOTE: As with several of the latest books, it takes place right as they are escaping from the island where several of the Lore creatures were being held, examined, and exterminated–basically–by the Order. The Order is a group dedicated to taking down all Immortals, and even though this prison has been destroyed there are hints that there are more.

From the start, Cole sets up these two characters with impossible odds . Lanthe and Thronos met when they were young, playing outside in the fields around her house. Inside his wings, she felt safe and loved.  However, they were from opposite sides in the Lore factions. Thronos was a Vrekener, an “angel” Lore type meant to exterminate the bad or evil Loreans. And Lanthe, her sister Sabine, and their parents were from the “evil” Sorceri. So, while Thronos knew that Lanthe was his mate and Lanthe loved Thronos, they knew their love was not going to be easy to reconcile.

Tragedy quickly followed. Vrekeners led by Thronos’s father killed Lanthe’s parents, Sabine killed Thronos’s father, Sabine was killed, and then Lanthe used her power of persuasion to attack the rest of the Vrekeners, causing Thronos to throw himself from the tower –and not save himself by flying. She believed he’d betrayed her and given away her family’s location. He landed, bloody and broken on the stones below.

Then Lanthe poured all of her powers of persuasion into saving Sabine, draining herself but reviving her sister. And this continued throughout the centuries, as Vrekeners searched them out and killed Sabine over and over, and Lanthe revived her over and over. It kept Lanthe’s powers constantly weakened, and living on the run kept her afraid and alone. Especially when she realized that not only had Thronos survived his fall, but that he was chasing her.

This story culminates as both Lanthe and Thronos are captured and incarcerated in the Order’s prison. As they fight to get off the island and then through a series of different realms before making it home, Lanthe and Thronos discover the truths of their past. Will they find each other through all the misconceptions and betrayals they’ve suffered? Can Lanthe forgive Thronos for the death of her family? Can Thronos forgive Lanthe for making him fall to his near death? Will they ever be able to trust each other again?

Kresley Cole has created a unique style in paranormal romantic suspense writing that I find unrivaled. The Book of Lore included in the front of each book– a virtual cast of characters–is detailed yet broad enough so that it’s easy to remember. Cole’s sense of humor, the fun and dynamic personalities of the characters that continue to grow throughout the series, and the very vivid details and descriptions of the romantic encounters make these books laugh-out-loud scorching reads!

Dark Skye is a solid addition to the Immortals After Dark series. While not the strongest book in the group, it is among the best for the sweetness of the story line and the hidden gem in it… a sighting of top Valkyrie Furie who has been missing up until now. Stuff’s about to get real. Watch out for the next one or two because all hell’s about to break loose. Pick out your fingernail polish color, get some popcorn, and get ready!
